2011 was a Great Year!

I should post more but there never seems to be any time with all there is to do around Barefoot Bungalows. If we are not making things comfortable for our fabulous guests, or booking tours or whatever, we have been making some upgrades to the property.

Fish in our Pond

In the last couple of months we changed the front hedge over to an entrance fence on each side of the driveway with palm trees planted to create a higher “hedge” with more privacy.  We got this done just before the wet so that the plants have a good growth spurt during the summer months.

We have just installed another small pond at the entrance to the bungalows to give some more fish a home.  This should be up and running in the next couple of weeks once the water is ready and all the new plants are in.

Of course the biggest improvement done this past year was the installation of our 10kW solar system.  What a great addition.  It is good to know that while hosting many visitors to Broome we have lowered our carbon footprint without compromising guest comfort!

We had a very busy year with many guests from all over the world.  We enjoyed the visitors and love having people on the property.  The best part is, it never seems like there are people here.  With the bungalows all separate with private decks and gardens, we rarely see anybody except at breakfast or when someone is enjoying the pool.  We know our guests appreciate this, because they write it in their reviews of us on Trip Advisor.

Here’s hoping everyone has a fabulous 2012 and maybe you’ll drop in for a visit.

Digital TV is on the Air!

Yep.  Broome has finally joined the 20th century only 11 years into the 21st.  We have DTV.  We have all been waiting, watching bad analogue signal on our new flash flat screens.  All those big fat heads on my tv were giving my a headache.See you later Analogue If the camera adds 5 pounds, then an analogue signal on a widescreen adds about 50!  I thought Monika Kos should try one of those diets that her show Today Tonight always exposes ’cause she looked seriously overfed but instead I now see that she is actually quite thin in her new digitized form.

So this is good news for all our guests visiting Broome who need to watch a little tv on vacation.  You will no longer have to suffer through the static and ghosting of analog. All our rooms have digital televisions.

Enjoy.

Great Value!

Ok so you have been wanting to visit Broome but have looked at the cost and thought that it was way out of your budget. You wanted to walk for miles on Cable Beach without seeing another soul but you just couldn’t find the money. You always wanted to get your very own

Storm at Broome Jetty

Wet Season Storm Broome Jetty

picture of the sun going down where the red soil meets the azure sea but…

Well now you can afford it. The wet season may be hot but so is the price. Everyone’s rates are down to attract the low numbers who visit Broome in the low season. And Barefoot Bungalow’s rates are the lowest! You can stay with us for as low as $99 per night. Yep you heard it right. Almost as low as staying at a backpackers, but we don’t have a dorm or bunk beds.

For $99 you get a Queen sized luxury separate bungalow with no shared walls, huge bathroom and shower, private deck with a view of the pool and waterfall, your own bbq, fridge, kettle, tea, coffee and free wifi.

The bonus of visiting Broome in the wet is that you might get to see one of the true wonders of nature, a lightning show on the horizon as the sun goes down.

Solar – Leave Only Footprints!

We have installed solar power. What does this mean to you as a guest? Just that we are one of the very few places you can stay in Broome without leaving a carbon footprint.

Barefoot's Solar Farm

East & North face - all available space.

As far as power is concerned you will be carbon neutral!

Not that big a deal you say? Well, Broome is not on the state grid.

We get our power supply from local generators running on natural gas and diesel trucked in from great distances. If you stay with us, you will be contributing to the preservation of the pristine Kimberley, not polluting it. Also, we supply what we don’t use back to the grid, saving gas and diesel while the sun shines.

So, stay with us near Cable Beach in Broome’s premier Sunset Estate and leave only footprints.

Just one more reason to book Broome’s only mini resort!

4.5 Star Accommodation!

Wow it’s been a long time since I wrote a blog entry. Well better late than never.

We have just gone to a Broome high 60+ reviews on Trip Advisor! This has given us a 4.5 star rating as a resort B&B. The reviews are mostly great, some good and a couple not so impressive. Oh well I know we tried with every one of our guests and with all the positive feedback (verbally as well as online) we are doing a lot right.

Check out the website. Look at all the pictures. Give me a call with any questions. Drop me an email. Or just click Book Now!

Jandamarra

Have you got your tickets yet?

Jandamarra is the stage play or “Event” as it is being labeled.  It is a play that follows one of the many stories or interpretations surrounding the Bunuba resistance against white settlement in the Kimberley.  It was the biggest resistance of its kind in Australia and was led by Jandamarra, a troubled and reckless youth who eventually embraces his spiritual power.

This play was first mounted in 2008 for the Perth International Arts Festival but has been remounted for a “Return to the Kimberley”.  They have aimed extremely high with doing the production in the country of the Bunuba.  They have sold out their show at Windjana Gorge from July 22-27, 2011.  The show begins its tour in Broome on Wednesday July 13th until the 16th and should be a great warmup for the Windjana outing.  Kununurra will have the show from August 4-6.

Get tickets now at jandamarra.com.au.

Cold Winter!

Is Broome going to experience an arctic blast this winter?  I only ask this because we have experience some quite cold nights in May.  We had a record low this past month of 10.8° C.  Maybe that is not Canadian cold but for Broome that is getting mighty chilly.  Not to worry if you are planning on visiting Broome this winter to get away from the cold south, the day’s temperature rarely falls below 25°.  This is one reason Broome is such a great place to visit in the winter; nice comfortable sleep under the doona and a great day walking around in shorts and a t-shirt.

Hope to see you this winter.

Café d’Amore

When: Saturday Night 7pm.  Place: A packed Café d’Amore. Impression: Fabulous!!  Reservations a must:  (08)9192 7606.

Café d'Amore

Café d'Amore owners Jude & Radiel

Broome’s number one restaurant is back!  The greatest news for the town all year.  Broome over the years had been spoiled with some of the best Italian food anywhere with the old Café d’Carlottas. Last year the ownership changed hands and the new owner fell off the horse.  No, it is fairer to say, he crashed and burned.  The service went downhill.  The food came to the table burned, that is, if the food made it to the table.

Thankfully that nightmare is over.  Café Carlottas has been reborn as Café d’Amore.  The new owners are former employees who worked there in the glory days.  They have brought the glory back.  The service is excellent.  The food is to die for.  The coffee is fabulous.  If you are going to be in Broome on vacation, be sure to call and book a reservation a good month in advance, because you will not get in otherwise.
